Three years ago, when I contracted vaginitis for the first time, my intuitionled me to consult a gynecologist. After taking vaginalsuppositories for a week, I thought I would see a completerecovery. What subsequently happened was that I needed to see the doctor every six months. This then became once every three months, once a month, and even twice a month. During the worst times, I had to use vaginal suppositories for three weeks in one month, which meant that I needed to take medication every day apart from during menstruation in order to alleviate the discomfort and inconvenience caused by the vaginal yeast infection. My symptoms included itchiness, burning sensations, an itchy and swollen vulva, and excessive discharge. Swelling and pain in the urethral orifice or during urination also occurred frequently. The inconvenience caused by the regular use of suppositories troubled me a great deal. According to statistics, 75% of the female population have contracted a vaginal yeast infection, with half of them having experienceda reoccurrence of the condition. 5% suffer from repeated reoccurrences, and I was one of these. It was a disease which was difficult to fully cure.

Vaginal yeast infectionsare caused by a weak immune system. Every time I visited the doctor, I was advised to “maintainmy regular lifestyle, get sufficient sleep and keep a balanced diet, etc.”. I always went to bed early and got up early. In an effort to improve my lifestyle, I replaced my sanitary towels tirelessly and very regularly and tried to avoid wearing tight and air-impermeable trousers. However, there was no progress whatsoever in the alleviation of my symptoms. At that time, I thought to myself,“I am only 26 years old.
